The Air Raid Offense is a shotgun spread, pass-first offense designed by Hal Mumme and Mike Leach while they were at the University of Kentucky in the 1990′s. The core concepts were originally developed by LaVell Edwards and Norm Chow when they coached at BYU. It is a very popular offensive system run by many high school football programs and many college football teams such as Texas Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and many others. College coaches have taken the core Air Raid Concepts and expanded upon them. Among the most famous coaches at the college level are Mike Leach, Dana Holgorsen and Tony Franklin. Tony Franklin has developed the Air Raid Offense into something he calls The System that he sells to high school and college programs throughout the US.
